Five Local Talents Join FC Tucson Academy
It starts in Tucson is more than just a slogan for FC Tucson, especially after signing five local talents to the academy.
Brandon Sanchez, Jerod Allen, Emiliano Andraux, Diego Ruiz and Carlos Brown sign Designated Academy (DA) contracts that allows them to compete with the senior team in USL League One and with the FC Tucson Pro Academy in the USL Academy League. The five will also maintain college eligibility under the contract.
Sanchez, Allen and Andraux previously played with the FC Tucson Pro Academy and the senior team last season. Ruiz and Brown signed their first professional academy contracts.

Sanchez, 17, got his start at Tanque Verde Soccer Club before moving moving on to RSL-AZ Southern Arizona. He joined the FC Tucson academy last season and made his professional debut on August 14 against Union Omaha.

Allen, 17, played with the U.S. Olympic Development program from 2019-2020. He played varsity soccer with Buena High School and club soccer with Vail Soccer Club. This will be Allen’s second year on the academy team.

Andraux, 19, played high school soccer with Tucson High Magnet School, which went 11-2-1 in the spring of 2021 and advanced to the AIA State Championships Conference 6A semifinals. He was added to the FC Tucson senior team lineup after Rafa Guerrero, another FC Tucson Academy product, left the club to join Grand Canyon University. He made is debut in the first 18 on September 19 against Greenville Triumph SC.

Jamaican International Tevin Shaw Signs with FC Tucson
Having a strong midfield is key to winning championships and FC Tucson strengthened its presence in the middle of the pitch with the addition of defensive midfielder Tevin Shaw.
The club announced the signing Monday of the 24-year-old Shaw, who previously played with Atletico Ottawa in the Canadian Premier League.
“Tucson is a wonderful club and there are some great people there,” said Shaw. “I’ve always wanted to play in the USL and I’m grateful Tucson is giving me he opportunity to showcase my talent.”
Shaw joins the club after playing 806 minutes across 17 games with Ottawa where he grabbed one assist, made 20 interceptions, 21 clearances, and 55 recoveries.

Shaw has been called up to the Jamaican National Team six times, making his debut in January 2018 against South Korea. He was on the game day roster for Jamaica’s friendly against Peru on Jan. 20.
“The skillset is certainly there and we wanted to make sure we got somebody with experience, ambition, who could cover ground, and who has a good personality,” said FC Tucson head coach Jon Pearlman, who pointed to Shaw’s international duty as a big positive. “Those kind of experiences are what we need for our team if we’re going to be a championship and playoff team.”
He is the 12th player on FC Tucson’s 2022 roster. He joins six returning starters from the 2021 playoff team, including midfielder João Delgado, and five new additions to the team.
