Unbeaten run ends in tough home loss
A goal in each half by North Texas SC in a feisty match at Kino North Stadium ended FC Tucson’s unbeaten run at seven on Saturday night.
In a match that saw four yellow cards – three for North Texas – in the first 31 minutes, both teams had opportunities as the play ebbed and flowed.

Despite the end of the unbeaten run, in which FC Tucson had gone 5-0-2, the club (9-9-6) remains above the playoff cutline with 33 points. North Texas (8-7-9) also has 33 points and holds the final playoff spot as the final month of the regular season gets underway.
Deri Corfe had a couple of shots from close range for FC Tucson while North Texas spread their shots among players on their front line en route to having eight shots on target in the match.
It was a nice, curling shot by Kalil ElMedkhar from distance that finally that sailed into the upper left corner and ended the deadlock in the 33rd minute. It was his fourth goal of the year.
“It was extremely disappointing,” FC Tucson coach Jon Pearlman said. “We told the guys it’s going to come down to critical moments … we were pretty much on the wrong sides of those moments.
“We had a great run and to remain unbeaten the rest of the way would have been difficult.”
In the second half, FC Tucson found it hard to find a really good chance to tie it up and then watched North Texas double the lead in the 77th minute.
Jorge Almaguer picked up a through ball on a breakaway to make it 2-0 North Texas.
The team tried to push forward in the final 10 minutes plus a long stoppage time but couldn’t put together a real threat for North Texas keeper Richard Sanchez.
FC Tucson will be home again in its next match when it hosts North Carolina FC on Wednesday, Oct. 13, for Fuerza Frontline Workers Night (buy tickets).

FC Tucson Celebrates Southern Arizona Heritage this Saturday
FC Tucson continues its playoff push this Saturday as it celebrates Southern Arizona Heritage Night presented by Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The club takes on North Texas SC in the USL League One.
As part of the evening, special entertainment will be provided by Mariachi Los Diablos and the Cienega High School Folklorico. The team will wear a special one-time 'El Jefe' jersey, inspired by Tucson's sunsets and the elusive jaguar that's been spotted in the Sonoran Mountains. The jersey was designed by local supporter Ramses Abud.
"Being first-generation American, native to Southern Arizona and the Sonoran desert, it's the one thing that I can celebrate both from my Mexican and my American side," Abud said. "It's kind of hard to put into words what it means to me, to watch my club that I've been representing and have them represent my logo, my design.
"It's really special, it's really powerful. What a better way to continue this legacy of the jaguar, of the club."
FC Tucson will auction off the autographed player-worn jerseys next week.

Behind the Limited Edition 'El Jefe' Jersey
FC Tucson has launched the limited edition 'El Jefe' culture kit. The jersey is inspired by Tucson's scenic views and the local jaguar nicknamed 'El Jefe'. It was designed by our own supporter, Ramses Abud.
Abud stopped by the official team store to get a first look at the jersey.
"Being first-generation American, native to Southern Arizona and the Sonoran desert, it's the one thing that I can celebrate both from my Mexican and my American side," Abud said. "We share the Sonoran desert and in the Sonoran desert lies the jaguar."
The rare jaguar made national news when trail cameras captured images of it in January. The Arizona Game and Fish Department in Tucson confirmed the image and it was the same one that has appeared over the last five years. It is currently the only known wild jaguar in the United States and dubbed "El Jefe," Spanish for 'Boss.'
According to news reports, less than 10 male jaguars have been spotted in the U.S. since 1996.
