FC Tucson looks to turn corner in Dallas

FC Tucson and North Texas SC arrive at Saturday evening's game in the same position, just having taken slightly different paths.

The match, at Globe Life Park in Arlington (5:30 p.m., ESPN+) will be the eighth for both USL League One clubs. And both are 2-2-1 in their last five matches.

FC Tucson has swept through its first three Women's Premier Soccer League games, outscoring its opponents 9-2 and taking an early lead in the Desert Conference.

The team will get an opportunity to put even room between itself and its nearest challenger when it travels to Campo Verde High School Stadium in Gilbert Saturday (7 pm PT) for a match against FC Arizona.

Luz Duarte leads FC Tucson with four goals, while Erin Craig has three apiece and Jaden Bailey has two.

This is FC Arizona’s second year in the Desert Conference. The team is coached by Tara Koleski, who was the previous head coach for the Dominican University of California and was appointed head coach of FC Arizona on March 1, 2021.

After the first hydration break, FC Tucson's Marco Ferriol blasted a shot off the right post and Kevin Rodriguez capitalized off the rebound in the 33rd minute to tie the match.

Dennis entered Saturday night's game in the 53rd minute, and found the back of the net just eight minutes later to cut FC Tucson's deficit in half.

FC Tucson Women win in Vegas

Following the first road game of the season for the FC Tucson Women’s team, the domination that happened in Vegas likely won’t stay in Vegas.

The road opener started in the 17th minute with Jaden Bailey firing in a cross that found the head of Luz Duarte. The Atomic City FC keeper Chloe Dody made a spectacular save, but the rebound fell to Erin Craig who smashed it into the back of the net right before the water break, giving FC Tucson the 1-0 lead.

For the rest of the half, FC Tucson kept the pressure on but could not find the back of the net.

The game picked up right after halftime in the 48th minute with Craig capitalizing on a mistake by the Atomic City FC defenders and firing a shot from the top of the 18. Yet again, Dody made a great save but the rebound found the feet of Bailey who put the ball in the back of the net making it 2-0.

Atomic City FC responded quickly with a goal of their own eight minutes later with a cross into the box that found the head of winger Allyssa Larkin.

FC Tucson shifted into high gear after conceding the one goal and scored three unanswered goals. The first came in the 65th minute with Hailey Harris finding the former Mexican national team member Duarte, who sent a rocket into the back of the net with her team-leading fourth goal of the season.

It took only two minutes for Bailey to finish off her brace and put FC Tucson up by three goals. Finally, Craig finished off the game by scoring her second goal in the 90th minute leading to the 5-1 victory.

The FC Tucson Women are now the only undefeated team and top of the table in the WPSL West Region as they look to continue its streak at FC Arizona on June 19.

FC Tucson's Inaugural Season To Be Streamed Live Via ESPN+

FC Tucson will have its inaugural professional season streamed on ESPN+, following a landmark agreement announced between The United Soccer League and ESPN Wednesday. The agreement will bring every game of USL League One’s inaugural 2019 season to ESPN+, the leading direct-to-consumer sports streaming service.

USL League One is the new United States Soccer Federation-sanctioned Division III league. Its regular season kicks off the weekend of March 29-30 and will conclude with its postseason in October.

“This is a big moment for League One,” said League One Senior Vice President Steven Short. “Placing the league side-by-side with some of the best professional soccer in North America and the rest of the world on ESPN+ will create major visibility to League One’s inaugural season. It will allow us to showcase the best of what this league will have to offer for fans across the United States.”

The addition of League One’s 2019 regular season and postseason schedules to the platform, results in more than 700 games across the USL Championship and League One on ESPN+ in the 2019 season. The games will be produced by USL Productions, the league’s state-of-the-art broadcast production, broadcast and distribution facilities with VISTA WorldLink in south Florida.

Spanish Forward Guillermo Delgado Joins FC Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. (January 28, 2019) —FC Tucson announced today it had signed forward Guillermo Delgado for the 2019 USL League One season. Per club policy, the details of the contract will not be released.

“I am thrilled to be joining the FC Tucson family in its first professional season. Having played against them in one of my PDL season I was able to see how successful and competitive the club is. I am looking forward to leaving everything on the pitch this season!”

Delgado, a native of Madrid, Spain, comes to Tucson with familiar ties to the club. He played one season for the Seattle Sounders U-23 Football Club in 2015, under then head coach Darren Sawatzky. A four-year All-American at the University of Delaware, he registered 117 points and 49 goals in 78 appearances.

He graduated from Delaware in 2016 as the school’s all-time leader in five statistical categories: goals, points, assists, game-winning goals, and shots.

He’s also made stops at USL League Two Reading United and most recently Rio Grande Valley FC of the USL Championship league.

Delgado was selected 27th overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by the Chicago Fire.

Kickers Announce Spear as President

The Richmond Kickers announced today Matt Spear as President. Beginning in January, Spear will take over the reigns as the pro team transitions into the newly formed USL League One.

Goalkeeper Micah Bledsoe Signs with Tormenta FC

Goalkeeper Micah Bledsoe has signed with South Georgia Tormenta FC ahead of its 2019 USL League One season, pending league and federation approval. At 6-foot-5, 200 pounds, the goalkeeper previously appeared in the net for both Louisville City FC and Nashville SC, adding more professional experience to Tormenta FC’s roster.

The team now has two goalkeepers on its roster, including Pablo Jara who was signed earlier this offseason.

"Micah is a very talented goalkeeper who is hungry to succeed as a professional. After a stellar collegiate career, he earned the opportunity to play for two of the USL's top clubs, which brings needed experience to our locker room," Tormenta FC Head Coach John Miglarese said.

"He has the frame, range, and training habits to succeed as a top goalkeeper. In signing Micah, we have secured a very strong goalkeeping core."

Bledsoe attended Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, and graduated in 2017 with a double degree in accounting and financial management. During his career with the Lipscomb men’s soccer team, Bledsoe started in 51 games, had 26 wins and 15 shutouts. He appeared on the Atlantic Sun’s All-Freshman Team in 2013 and received Defensive Player of the Week honors five times.

"I'm delighted to join Tormenta FC as they transition into their first year as a professional team," Bledsoe said. "There is a lot of excitement around this organization in the community, and I can’t wait to be a part of it and compete in the inaugural season of USL League One."

Bledsoe is the 13th player to sign professionally with Tormenta FC. Other signees include Conner Antley, Jad Arslan, Lucas Coutinho, Charlie Dennis, Ricardo Gómez, Pablo Jara, Michael Mecham, Michael O’Sullivan, Joshua Phelps, Jerry Saint-Vil, Nick Wells, and Nil Vinyals.

The team now has two goalkeepers on its roster, including Pablo Jara who was signed earlier this offseason.

“Micah is a very talented goalkeeper who is hungry to succeed as a professional. After a stellar collegiate career, he earned the opportunity to play for two of the USL’s top clubs, which brings needed experience to our locker room,” Tormenta FC Head Coach John Miglarese said.

“He has the frame, range, and training habits to succeed as a top goalkeeper. In signing Micah, we have secured a very strong goalkeeping core.”
