TUCSON, Ariz. (Feb. 6th, 2020) — FC Tucson announced today that former goalkeeper coach, Alex Rangel and former FC Golden State academy head coach, Reinaldo Caetano, will join the team as assistant coaches under new head coach John Galas.
“I am thrilled to welcome both Coach Rangel and Caetano to my staff.” Galas said. “Alex (Rangel) has deep roots in the Tucson community and proved to be one of the best Goalkeeper Coaches in our league last year. His tremendous work with our keepers last season and it did not go unnoticed. I’m excited to see how he continues to develop our young goalkeepers this season,”
A former standout goalkeeper at Colombia College, Alex Rangel brings over 12 years of goalkeeping experience to Tucson. Rangel helped coach the 2019 Pima Community College men’s soccer team to a 15-4-2 overall record, including nine clean sheets. He began his coaching career with Tanque Verde Soccer Club as a goalkeeper coach and currently serves as the goalkeeper coach for the FC Tucson Youth Academy.
“I am humbled and blessed to receive the opportunity to return to FC Tucson in its second professional season,” Rangel said. “I thank Coach Galas for having confidence in my abilities as a coach and individual to retain me on his staff. I’m excited to get to work and strive for greatness in 2020,”
Rangel holds a USSF E license and is in the process of completing his USSF D license. He also holds two goalkeeping certificates from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Reinaldo Caetano comes to Tucson with a wide range of coaching experience. In 2016, he served as an assistant coach and with first division Brazilian side Esporte Clube Agua Santa and served as the strength and conditioning coach for the club’s U-20 squad.
“I am extremely happy and honored to join the FC Tucson family,” Caetano said. “I can’t wait to be on the pitch with our players as well as being involved with the Tucson community and culture. As part of this team, I am committed to representing FC Tucson and its community on and off the field.”
Most recently, Caetano served as the head coach of the FC Golden State Force ’03 boys academy team. During this period, Caetano saw several of his players receive opportunities to compete in MLS, USL Championship and various Division 1 programs across the country. Caetano holds a USSF B license, NSCAA Premier Diploma, and an ABTF Brazilian Association of Soccer Level II.
“Reinaldo (Caetano) comes to our club highly recommended and I am very much looking forward to working with him on the field.” Galas said. “He will provide great balance within our staff, and add great value as it relates to our performance on the field.”
