TUCSON, Ariz. (July 23, 2019) — FC Tucson forward Devyn Jambga was named the USL League One Player of the Week for Week 17 of the 2019 USL League One season the league announced today. Three of his teammates — Jordan Jones, Colin Stripling, and Carlos Merancio — were also named to the Team of the Week.
Jambga recorded his second brace of the season last Saturday in a 3-1 win over Greenville Triumph SC. The 5-foot-11 winger found the back of in the 20thand 58thminute to help FC Tucson grab its first road victory in over a month.
Jambga becomes the first player in the club’s professional era to receive Player of the Week honors twice in one season. He leads Tucson’s Golden Boot race with five goals scored.
Jones continued his exceptional play last Saturday against Greenville, logging two assists and five created chances in the win. Jones has registered three goals, two assists and eight created chances on the season.
Stripling receives his first Team of the Week nod following his fourth professional start of the season. Stripling had a dominating performance on the defensive side of the pitch, winning 12 of 14 duels and going a perfect 7 for 7 in aerial duels. He also recorded two created chances, including a key pass to Jordan Jones who found Devyn Jambga for his second goal of the match.
Merancio had an impressive outing against GVL. The Hermosillo, Mexico native collected five saves on six shots faced last Saturday. In five appearances, Merancio has collected 18 saves on 24 shots faced and a save success rate of 75%.
FC Tucson will be back in action on Saturday, July 27th, when the club travels to Chattanooga, Tennessee to take on Chattanooga Red Wolves SC.
Kickoff is set for 4:00 P.M. and the match will be streamed via ESPN+.
