TUCSON, Ariz. (January 11, 2019) — FC Tucson announced today that John Galas, the former Sporting Director and Head Coach Of USL League Two club Lane United, has been named FC Tucson assistant coach. His duties begin effective immediately.
“I am delighted to join the Phoenix Rising FC family and specifically FC Tucson. I would like to thank Head Coach Darren Sawatzky for this tremendous opportunity to join his coaching staff. Coach Sawatsky is a proven winner, and I look forward to assisting him in delivering a quality product the Tucson soccer community can be proud of.”
Galas has over 20 years of coaching experience across all levels of soccer from amateur to the pros. Most recently he was the sporting director and head coach of USL League Two club Lane United in Eugene, Oregon from 2013-2018. During that time he spent a three-month term as an assistant coach with Spanish side Villareal B.
“Furthermore, I’d like to thank GM Bobby Dulle and Head Coach Rick Schantz of Phoenix Rising FC for their support as we begin this exciting project in Tucson. Lastly, a special thank you to Lane United FC, Managing Director Dave Galas, the LUFC ownership group and the Red Aces for the last five years of unwavering support”
Galas has also coached with the Portland Thorns, Real Salt Lake Academy in Casa Grande, Ariz., Florida State, University of Oregon, and the University of Arizona.
“John’s knowledge of players in the development pathway is incredible and his connections and continued education in the game make him an ideal person to work with us at FC Tucson. We are all working diligently to build a roster and club that represents Tucson well in the USL League One and John adds another dimension to that goal” remarked FC Tucson Head Coach Darren Sawatzky.
