TUCSON, Ariz. — FC Tucson returns home for the Premier Development League regular season finale this Saturday, July 15th at 7:00 p.m. against the Colorado Rapids U23.
The game will fall on Tucson Medical Center Noche Latina de Fútbol de Univision Arizona & La Poderosa, Benefiting Chicanos Por La Causa, and feature a live performance by Freddy Vega and Arizona Norte, Presented by Vantage West.
Before taking on Colorado, Tucson first makes its final road trip of the regular season with back-to-back matches against BYU in Provo on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tucson will then return home to what the team hopes will be yet another electric atmosphere. On July 3rd, fans packed Kino North Stadium with 2,220 in attendance, the second highest attendance for an FC Tucson PDL match ever.
“For us, Noche Latina is so important,” head coach Jon Pearlman said. “We’ve got a lot of latino players and this event always means a lot to us and the community. Our fight song is ‘Esta noche, tenemos que ganar,’ so you have to know how important it is to us, and we’re hoping we earn some new fans.”
The match could prove to be Tucson’s last home fixture of the season. Despite sitting on the cusp of a fourth division crown in a row, the Men in Black could be back on the road come playoff time, as the Fresno Fuego currently sit in pole position in the Western Conference.
As it stands, Tucson now sits just three points clear of FC Boulder (albeit with a game in hand) after the Colorado side has had an impressive run of results.
With three more points in Utah however, Tucson would clinch, having already beaten Boulder head-to-head 5-0 and 5-1 earlier in the season.
“If we look at the playoffs, we’ve hosted a number of years in a row, but it looks probably like we’ll have to go on the road this time, so this could be our last game [at home] and we’re going to make the most of it.”
