Behind every good team, there’s a player that stands as the heart and soul of the squad, that constantly pushes for more from teammates while giving even more themselves.
For FC Tucson this season, that player has been Moshe Perez.
Perez, a midfielder from Colorado Mesa University, has ignited the Men in Black this season, leading Tucson to the precipice of a fourth straight division title and setting up another playoff run.
Scoring the game winner in the First Round of the U.S. Open Cup against the Colorado Rush has proved to be a catalyst for Perez.
Since coming on as a sub against the San Diego Zest and scoring in the third match of league play, the Israeli firecracker hasn’t looked back, scoring in four of the last five matches.
Perez’s hat-trick over FC Boulder on May 26th earned him PDL Team of the Week honors, which he promptly followed up with two more against the Colorado side in the next meeting, including a free kick that has Goal of the Year candidate written all over it.
With 7 goals so far this season, he now sits just two away from tying teammate Afonso Pinheiro’s single-season scoring record of 9, set last season after the Brazilian broke Real Salt Lake forward Ricardo Velazco’s mark.
Perez and the Men in Black are back in action today against New Mexico rivals Albuquerque Sol, before returning home for FC Tucson’s July 3rd Fireworks Spectacular, which has consistently proven to be the most electric atmosphere every season.
