Two goals, one assist highlight successful weekend.
Tucson, AZ (Tuesday, September 18, 2012) — The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced on Monday that UNLV’s Nick Marshall was the conference’s player of the week. It’s the second consecutive week a former FC Tucson player has been named his conference’s player of the week.
In a 5-1 win over Canisius on Sunday, Marshall scored his team’s game-winning goal while adding another goal and an assist. Marshall nearly had another assist last Friday in UNLV’s 1-0 loss to Syracuse, according to his school’s website.
Marshall’s five points during the Canisius match gives him 11 points this season, which is the best in the MPSF. He is the first Rebel to earn the weekly honor since … Nick Marshall. The former Canyon Del Oro star won the award twice during his freshman season in 2009.
During his time with FC Tucson, Marshall appeared in nine matches and played a total of 431 minutes.
Long Named To All-Tournament Team
The honors didn’t stop at conference player of the week for FC Tucson players. Midfielder Aaron Long was named to the UCR/Courtyard by Marriott Soccer Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Long scored his fifth goal of the season during Cal State Riverside’s 5-0 win over Nebraska-Omaha. Last week Long was named the Big West Conference Player of the Week.
Long appeared in 11 matches for FC Tucson (664 minutes). He scored a goal and notched three assists for five points. His season total for points was tied for third-most on the team.
