Hukari’s two goals against Southern California highlights league honor

Tucson, AZ (Thursday, July 19, 2012) — FC Tucson’s Reid Hukari was named to the Premier Development League’s Team of the Week as a midfielder by the league in an announcement made Thursday afternoon. Hukari is the fourth FC Tucson player this season to be named to the Team of the Week.

“I am extremely honored to be named to the PDL team of the week,” Hukari said. “The focus for FC Tucson this past weekend was getting as many points as possible and I’m glad my effort could help. While I am being recognized for a spot on the Team of the Week I truly believe that my teammates have shown the talent to be in the same spot. I am truly thankful for the acknowledgment and can’t wait for FC Tucson to take home the title.”

Hukari helped FC Tucson defeat the Southern California Seahorses on Wednesday, July 11, by scoring two goals in a 4-2 win. His first goal, two minutes into the game, was the quickest goal scored in FC Tucson history. His second goal was a highlight-worthy shot from about 10 yards outside of the top of the goal box and into the top right corner of the net.

“Reid performed tremendously against Southern California Seahorses after playing his way into the starting lineup,” said FC Tucson General Manager Jon Pearlman. “We will sorely miss him against the Sounders U-23 in the playoffs.”

Due to an illness, Hukari will not be traveling with the team for its playoff debut.
Hukari is going to be a redshirt sophomore at Denver University in the fall. During his freshman season in 2010, Hukari appeared in 11 games for UCLA, starting three of them against Notre Dame, Indiana and Davidson.

Four other players have received league honors. Donny Toia received honorable mention honors for the team of the week (May 10); Dom Papa was named to the team of the week as a defender (May 24); Travis Campbell was named PDL Player of the Week (June 14) and Carlos Montes was named to the team of the week as a midfielder (July 12).
