Throughout the Desert Diamond Cup, we’ll take a look at some of the best players from each team competing in Tucson for the Cup, as we look to crown the CARF International Most Valuable Player, awarded to the outstanding player of the tournament.
Last season, Bradley Wright-Phillips just couldn’t stop scoring.
The New York Red Bulls forward took home the coveted 2016 MLS Golden Boot after leading the league with 24 goals, good enough to beat out crosstown rival David Villa.
Since entering the league in July of 2013, the Englishman has terrorized defenders from coast to coast, racking up 69 goals in 107 appearances.
After beginning his Red Bulls career in the shadow of legendary striker Thierry Henry, Wright-Phillips has forged his own legacy as an elite attacker, becoming the only player in Major League Soccer to finish in the top five for league goals scored the last three years in a row.
He is also the first player in league history to amass two 20+ goal seasons, and it may be no coincidence that since his arrival, the Red Bulls have earned three first place finishes during the regular season (2013, 2015, 2016).
See “BWP” in action as his side try to turn Arizona Red this Saturday, February 18th at 1:00 p.m. at Kino North Stadium. (TICKETS)
